Please help ID this Prewar Cast Iron Fence

   I do believe the 2nd fencing is another version made by Dent, I believe Dent had several different versions of this type of fencing down thru the years.  Your 2nd picture I believe is the earliest version.

Thanks for the response.  

From what I could gather, Dent made the first fence, it was #289 found in Dent Toys Catalogue No. 10.  However there is no fence listed in the catalogs before that.

It also uses a different linking mechanism as well.  This leads me to believe that the second one is not Dent.  The second one also has a marking that reads "Pat Feb. 6 94"  It still remains a mystery to me.

   Real nice restoration work on the fence, I still think Dent made them both,

take a close look at the mounting feet and you will see they are almost identical.

Another company might have picked this mold design up and copied it, but I kind of doubt it.

It would make sense they are both Dent.  The lengths are the same and the way the gate works is the same.

Maybe it was a special limited edition prototype!  j/k

  J/K, Dent made special one time items like this that actually came with different

Tin Plate Train Sets.  I got a hunch you have one of those pieces of fencing,

keep an eye out and more might surface for you at the train shows in your area.

If your train store has a used item box some might surface ther also.  I always thought the Dent fencing was way cool stuff, never wanted to restore it bad enough to pick it up, now that I see yours, and how you restored it, I might just have to change my mind.

I was thinking about selling the fence that I restore, but I wasn't sure how much of a demand there would be

   No doubt about it that is the most common of the Dent Fencing, and the fence gate

is way cool, Hellgate does better resteration however!

I was reading a story on Ward Kimball yesterday.  I knew he had this fence on his European layout, but what I didn't know until I saw a picture, was that he had both versions!

Hey nice restore there Hellgate :-)

I recently picked up some of this fencing and I was told that there is reproductions of this made coming out of China. Wondering if you have any clue how to tell the real from the fake? Is the fence marked anywhere?
