From the photos I have seen most of the interior detail is obscured due to what looks like frosted windows. My questions are:
1. Can you actually see the "abandoned toys" on this car?
2. How many can you actually see?

There are only six hanging toys. There are colored silhouette strips that run up and over the seats, to make the car look full.
Here are some photos I took a few years ago.

Great pics Keith! Glad to see you back on the Forum.

Thank You!
I am not overly happy with my heavyweight abandoned toy car either. The windows are extremely hard to see into and do have what you call a frosted over effect to them. The tint of the windows is also different from the coach and observation cars. In retrospect, I would have purchased another coach instead.

The window film varies from car to car throughout the entire set. I'm going to tackle that over the Summer, by replacing them with a quality plastic.
Volphin, just curious....do you intend to go clear with the windows or a tint? BTW does anyone know if there is a source for this material? I am thinking od doing the same mod, although the differing tints are starting to grow on me.

I don't know yet Pete. Part of me wants to stay with the bluish tint, just uniform. Then again, I never run the PE with the lights off, so maybe clear would work better...
I'll probably wind up testing some different sheets. I have a plastic supplier in town, so I'll see what he says about it. What I do know is that it is a least a weekend of work. LOL
HEY! Where's the "train with square wheels?"

Not one of my favorite PE scale cars, but I am still glad I purchased it. I am not going to change it , but run it as is.

Keith's photos of the interior of the PE abandoned toy car are great! I had no idea that much detail was in there due to the opaque windows. This car looks good running on my 072 Fastrack oval, but I do notice the tint differences from car to car (the inconsistency is somewhat disturbing).
I do wish Lionel offered a scale coach with the conductor at one of the doors like they did with the smaller PE coach. I might have to cannibalize my PE conductor car and try to put him in one of the scale PE coaches. Keith did a great job with his.
My next PE wish is for a scale hobo car (Keith made a stunning mod to his scale PE observation car adding the hobo and a flickering campfire on the roof).
Finally, I would love to see Lionel issue a Legacy controlled scale PE diner car with railsounds. I can imagine it as offering several music clips from the PE movie. The new-for-2014 10th anniversay scale PE loco (which I absolutely adore) already has enough audio clip phrases from the movie which is the reason I would prefer PE song clips instead of stationsounds.
C'mon Lionel: keep milking the Polar Express franchise and give us some great new scale cars that include the conductor, hobo and a Legacy controlled railsounds/stationsounds car. Please.

Matt Ashba is the guy you need to contact with your suggestions. He was instrumental in getting the scale PE cars to us in the first place. He is a good guy.
I just bought one of these, and I'm extremely disappointed in it. The windows are so opaque and cloudy that I can't see one item inside. Not even a shadow, and it was new in the box. Anyone else have this problem? Frosted a little is one thing, but unable to see inside at all is another. I had one of these a few years ago, and I could see inside clearly. I wish I never sold that one...
I was being kind, using the term"frosted."

C'mon Lionel, listen to Terrence L. We would all buy new scale cars for the PE set. We would also buy upgraded parts that would let us improve the current scale cars, e.g., new window sets for the abandoned car. Make us happy.
PS. How about a new obs car that looks like Keith's modified version!
WOW! I got Extremely Lucky bumping into this one at Trains and Lanes!
I still can't believe the scale PE Combo car is the hardest one to find!
