Neat, looks good.  Did you wire the tracks so you can have an engine cycled to neutral sitting there with headlight on?  That would be cool.

Chris,  I like your idea a lot!  Experimenting with small displays is an excellent way to practice your technique.  I wish I had done that.   I now have a postwar layout and I am trying to figure out how to enhance it without starting from scratch and rebuilding the whole thing.

 

And, your display looks great.  My one thought is your track bed.  I have a picture of Frank53's roadbed.  He used postwar track, O gauge and enhanced it, remarkably, by elevating the track and filling in the missing RR ties.  It looks outstanding.  I use O27 track with O42 curves and Gargrave switches.  I am thinking about doing the same thing. 

 

Dchris: The green looks good, almost a match for the building roofs. I agree with Wood regarding the track - you might try either 072 straights, K-Line 36" straights or Williams straights. All have the extra ties. Nice job!

I like it.  I too am getting interested in doing postwar now, it is neat stuff even though it isn't scale and looks more toy like.   I disagree with the track recommendations, leave it as it is if you are trying to replicate a postwar layout.  I find my own interests keep getting modified as I 'age' in this hobby. 

 

The main thing is to do what you like and what gives you the most satisfaction. Good luck!

Hi Christopher,  Your display is real neat and cool.  I'm thinking, after seeing your project, of making a D-20 display.  This was in CTT The Golden Years 1950-54.  I already have a few of the accessories. 

 

I'm a fan of the classic/postwar look, whether it's a re-creation of a display layout or a carpet-central with Plasticville buildings and Christmas-village trees. Something about it just looks "right" with traditional-sized trains...

 

 

I have that special issue - what a good read!  

 

I have always liked the D106, D132 & D131. I really thought hard about building those

I'm heading down the same path as you. Continuing to research the Dealer Display Layouts and hoping to decide soon.

Your idea of testing ground cover, paint, rail and accessories is a good one. Nice way to try and perfect the "look."
