Switcher from that store it's dated from November
1955...must have been a pre christmas tune up !

Wow, John....good detective work.....it would be interesting to hear from someone that actually shopped there....

When I go to York I will pick up a few junk bin Model Railroaders from the 50s, 60s, 70s to see if they ran ads.

I'll go through my old copies of Toy Trains......see if any ads are there....those ran 50-54.

Peter, I have an original copy of "How To Operate Lionel Trains and Accessories" that includes a "Complete List of LIONEL Approved Service Stations for 1956-57." THE LIONEL CORPORATION Copyright 1956; Form 926-56.

 

Under the state-by-state listing, under NJ, and Jersey City "Uneeda Train Town" is listed at "2973 Blvd.--Ph.:  JO 5-1660."  p. 59.

 

EDIT:  Checked the 1949 version of "Instructions" and Uneeda is listed the same as the '56-'57 edition.  The 1947 version of "Instructions" does not contain a listing of approved service stations.  I don't have a '48 version of "Instructions."

Uneeda eventually relocated to Raritan NJ on Rt 202 South of the Somerville circle and forged ahead in the large appliances business. When I was a boy growing up in Brooklyn, NY I remember Lionel products were sold not only at toy stores but at furniture and appliance stores as well.

In '49, I was 2 years old; my sister was 3; and, my brother was a newborn.  I guess my Dad was going to give us, and himself, an early start with LIONEL trains.
