Hi,I'm planning on building an oval o gauge track layout around the ceiling in a 12'x16' area.My question is,Can I just lay my track, plug it in and play? or do I need a bus line with feeders? Thanks,Don
You'll want several power drops at least. Obviously, the better the track joints are connected, the fewer drops that will be required. For that size loop, and presuming you take care to insure good connections, I'd consider at least three drops.
Another point, are you running conventional, TMCC/Legacy, or DCS? If you're considering DCS, you may want to think about some different wiring guidelines.

I connected 4 feeder lines to each of my larger ovals to insure smooth operation now and in to the future. Bus bars for train operation and accessories are separate. Do it now in anticipation of the future...
