I always get Ross prewired !!   Whole lot easier instead of soldering all those wires to get good ground.  I just Dremel a cut where I want my blocks. 2 wires one toggle.

Option 2

I prefer to use option one as it seems the perfect place to have a block and it saves money.  I do not like the fibre pins because the Gargraves flex track can creep and close the gap.  If using option two, I agree with Clem about just using a Dremel to create a gap.

Thanks guys. Just as I thought. Option 2 seems to keep things simple.

Option 1, only because our  Ross switches were  not prewired when we started the layout. Our first prewired switch threw us a bit of a curve  because it wired 2 blocks together instead of one....  Took a while to find the problem..

I know that one of the risks of using the fiber pins is that the reals can move, and ultimately make contact. 
I have also heard of ways to insulate them from this possibility, but don't have a real understanding of how it is done.

How do you guarantee that the center rails will never move and make contact?

#1.  I've been using that method for some 30+ years.  If I were ever to change my mind, and I can't think of any reason why I would, it is very easy to resolder connections under the switch.  I have some 40-50 switches, and all but 2 mark the end of 3 blocks.
