Running 18V track power for my Legacy locomotives, but want to use some postwar action cars such as the Milk Car. Feeding 18V into the car shoots the milk cans into the next zip code and will burn up the solenoid. Looking for 2 suggestions: 1) how to drop the power feed to approximately 9- 10 volts; 2) can the power drop module go in the line feed to the operating track, or should it be placed inside the milk car?

Thanks!

Use a second transformer to run the accessories.  They never ran well in the 50's using track voltage and the same is true today for different reasons.  The mike car, cattle car, barrel loader, etc. all like their own preferred voltage level.  With a different transformer you can make them happy. Most if not all of these cars and accessories will not be on the main line, I assume, so you can isolate that track and feed it the power you require.

One solution is  to use an inexpensive transformer to power the operating track. I use a type V transformer to power mine. It has 4 variable channels that can be adjusted for finding the best voltages for different accessories. I use about 12 for the milk car, 8 for the drum loader, 14 for all my 22 Fastrack switches, and so on. I paid $45 for it.

Hopefully ADCX Rob will reply to your post.  In the past he explained how to disconnect one of the four wires at the control track while one of the remaining three would go to a separate buss that would offer constant power at the approximate ideal voltage.  Sorry that I do not remember the exact process that I use on my layout that I learned from him.

HI guys.  Good info topic for me.  I am curious???  I have several used xformers that I have picked up from various sales.  What transformer[s] would  you suggest to be used to power about 25 [more or less]  normal and everyday accessories,  to get close to the total needed wattage. All accessories and xformer would be on a single circuit. I know my friends, you're guessing at your very best but let's go on the hi wattage side.  Just trying to gleam the benefit of your opinion.   Track wattage & switch wattage not included.  Separate xformers.   Thanks a bunch.      Tommy
