Having read alot of different posts i decided to just try wiring up a DC 12v led straight to track power as a power on indicator, running conventional and sometimes set at 18v for the LC+ , low and behold it lights up, has been on for some time now without any other electronics, it does have a resistor in line with it, thats how it came, my question, is anything wrong with this, and why the need for all these rectifiers, caps, bridges, etc.

My end game with be to eliminate batteries on my layout, like the qsi sound boxcars, 9vdc and a few lamposts 3vdc. Any help with going about these circuits will be in another post, however in just playing around and testing things, i found that these lit, so how is it working?

Will it last, as just a power on indicator it seems to be just fine...thoughts,
