These photos show some random accessories and parts that were part of a recent prewar junk purchase. They look interesting, but I don’t’ know what they are and would appreciate input from anyone who recognizes some of them. Eventually I’ll be putting them on eBay as a lot or individually. The first is a windup crossing warning signal. It must have had a bell and some kind of actuating mechanism. The rod sticking out of the top is the winding key. After winding, when the tab on the bottom (left in photo) is pushed, the device makes the clapper vibrate as it unwinds. There must have been a bell on that whited post in the middle of the diamond. I would think that the spring rod had some kind of mechanical connection to the track. Anyone recognize this ? I’d love to know how the actuating mechanism worked.
This has Lionel on the box, but no number. Also a plunger but no solenoid. Looks like it might have been a semaphore, but I can’t find it in Greenburg’s prewar accessories.
Here is an interesting light tower. Looks like it’s just soldered together from heavy wire. Who would make something like that ?
This is an Ives accessory. Looks as if it might have been a block signal. In the photos, you can see the common wire going up the ladder. The two insulated terminals have wires going up the mast.
Here is a Lionel box that looks like it might be a circuit breaker. It doesn’t match photos I’ve seen of a #91. Is the mechanism missing a piece ?
This is an interesting pair of standard gauge crossing gates. The lights work. One has a solenoid plunger.
Three miscellaneous items. One looks like a Marx semaphore, but not sure. The other has odd looking horizontal rods. And finally, a lonely ladder.
So that’s my current prewar accessory junk collection. Hope others in our group can identify them. If any appeal to you, make me an offer.
