What where the transformer options in 1938 from Lionel? I am building a OO layout as it would have been done the first year of production, using my 0080W train set. Those, when new came with one of the 166x whistle/direction controlers, so I am guessing the 1041 with those abilities came after that model year? The dealer demo layouts I have seen for OO, normally have a 1041 partial recessed into the surface. Was the 1041 available in 38 or did it come out the next year? Thanks in advance. AD

Wondering if Lionel used a 1030 on those layouts, same size as the later 1041 an with built in whistle control, just not the directional button. AD
AD here are some pics from my 1938 catalog. There is no 1041 transformer identified in there. The table states a Type “B” for the 0080W outfit. I reviewed my 39, 40 & 41 catalogs and the listed transformers were all “Letter” types, no 1041 listed. Hope these help. Make sure you post pics as you build this great sounding layout.

The type B makes sense as the W sets came with the 166x whistle/direction controller. Thanks for the post. If those classic catalogs were not so darn expensive, I would have every one that has OO in it, from 1938 to 1941/42 when the war shut everything down toy train wise. AD
