I am having an issue with the head light function on a ps 3.0 upgrade.  The issue is when the steam engine is is forward motion the headlight is off.  But when the engine is reverse the front headlight is on!  These are two separate wiring harnesses. At time the back up headlight stay on constantly.  has anyone else had this issue.  I've contact MTH about this issue and have yet to hear anything back from them at the date of this posting.

I know there are quite a few MTH  experts on here, that may have experienced this issue.

Please help!

Again, with the upgrade kits- you have to follow all the instructions. You cannot just flash a sound file and call it good.

The MTH Stacker, AKA PS32, AKA PS3 Steam upgrade kit, files page https://mthtrains.com/chainfiles

Also, just to be complete, read this https://mthtrains.com/sites/de...20DOCUMENT_FINAL.pdf

You most likely need this file for steam with standard sized smoke unit https://mthtrains.com/sites/de...am_Osmk_3528-CPF.zip

Again, reading this topic and the replies, it sounds like the initial headlight issue was most likely simply the motor wires being reversed.

The tender reverse light being stuck on somewhat sounds like the test firmware of the stacker boards is installed keeping the lights all on. I know contradictory to the headlight issue, but just throwing out known possible errors or situations that could result in constant on light output not turning off with direction.

the headlight on the front is now working correctly.  the only other problem is now the rear backup headlight is staying on!

if it not one thing its another, does it ever end?

Please Help

Thank you in advance

The motor leads were NOT reversed, but they are now.  For steam the headlight stays on all the time and the tender backup light is on only in reverse.

Did you mess with the harness any in the tender?   The purple wire in the tender harness that goes to the 12 pin connector (the only tether wire that goes to that connector) is the headlight for engine.  Next to it is the green wire that goes to tender light.  If they are swapped you would have the indications you have.

I agree you should have loaded the PS-32 steam flash code.  This would keep the engine HL on and the tender only on in reverse.

The PS-2 instructions which you should be able to get of web show you the wiring controls of the harness connectors.  You can validate what you have.

Otherwise, you did have diesel flash code.  Did have motor leads reversed, and do have a shorted Fet on the reverse light.  Based on symptoms you said.

For checking motor leads, before putting harness on motor, I use a 9V battery to determine which terminal is + that makes engine try to move forward.  That one gets yellow wire from harness.  Yellow is + in forward.  G
