I have this product and it works but when a dark train goes by it doesn't work till a light color box car goes by it. Even my dark green train doesn't trigger it ,why can some one help. If I run my hand passed it it works or lighter color trains.

No one has any idea how to fix so it goes off no matter what goes by
I had similar issues with this device. I believe it got better when I turned off the lights in the room, and/or put a flat black background across the tracks from the sensor. It was a major pain. I was trying to set off crossing gates. I think my final solution was to move the ITAD to inside a tunnel.
The ITAD sends out an invisible (infrared or IR) light beam across the track and looks for a reflection from a passing train. As with visible light, you get a stronger reflection from a light colored object than a dark colored object. The ITAD has a sensitivity adjustment control. As you may have discovered if you set it to maximum sensitivity, it might trip continuously trip from ambient room lighting. What seems to work in such situations is to put a small "window awning" over the ITAD windows so that only reflections from a passing train hit the plastic sensor window.
