I did a search and it appears as if PS-3 upgrade boards will be available late this year.

I have a 2005 Santa Fe Blue Goose with PS-2 and scale wheels.  It runs fine using the 2-rail DC mode on 2 rail track.  I have decided that the time has come to put DCC into this engine.

I would like some advice on whether it would be wise to upgrade from PS-2 to PS-3 to get the PS-3 DCC feature or should I just take out the PS-2 electronics and put in a standard O gauge DCC system?

I am only going to run this engine using DCC in the future.  Thanks.

Does your standard DCC system use the MTH tach sensor for speed or "know" how to drive the MTH smoke unit?  If not, you'd lose the synchronized sound chuffing and smoke puffing effect.  And while the DCC system may have outputs to drive couplers and lights, I'd look into insuring it can be configured to driving them with the correct voltage/timing.

GGG,

So I should wait until the end of this month for the upgrade kit?

Does the upgrade kit give me full DCC functions just like the HO DCC PS-3 engines?  Several friends run MTH HO PS-3 engines using DCC at my club.  They are impressive.

Will I have features like smoke, chuff, and lights controlled by the DCC system using the PS-32 board?

Thanks,  Joe

The instructions say that the battery has two AA size 1.5 volt NiCad self charging batteries.  I assume that this is a 3 volt battery and I should not have to replace the speaker.  Correct?

Thanks for your help.

Yes an engine using as 2.4V battery is 3V and the speaker is already a 4 ohm the same as the PS-3 requirement.  G

Thanks very much.  I really appreciate your advice.  I am going to wait for the PS-32 board to upgrade.
