PS-3 for DCC?

Using a PS-32 board with the proper connectors for your engine all you need to do is replace the PS-2 board, remove battery and harness.  Only need to change speaker if the engine is PS-2 5V.  If 3V speaker is already correct.   G

Sounds easier to do the PS-32 board.

Does your standard DCC system use the MTH tach sensor for speed or "know" how to drive the MTH smoke unit?  If not, you'd lose the synchronized sound chuffing and smoke puffing effect.  And while the DCC system may have outputs to drive couplers and lights, I'd look into insuring it can be configured to driving them with the correct voltage/timing.

They are not sold as repair parts unless you are an ASC service center.  The PS-32 boards will be in the Upgrade kits when they are made and released in the June 2015 time frame.  G

Does the upgrade kit give me full DCC functions just like the HO DCC PS-3 engines?  Several friends run MTH HO PS-3 engines using DCC at my club.  They are impressive.

Will I have features like smoke, chuff, and lights controlled by the DCC system using the PS-32 board?

The instructions say that the battery has two AA size 1.5 volt NiCad self charging batteries.  I assume that this is a 3 volt battery and I should not have to replace the speaker.  Correct?

Yes you will have DCC features and DCS along with conventional.  You can down load a PS-3 instruction manual for an engine to see what features are controllable.

Yes an engine using as 2.4V battery is 3V and the speaker is already a 4 ohm the same as the PS-3 requirement.  G

The PS3 upgrade will be easier. An aftermarket DCC decoder like a QSI Titan Magnum can control your smoke unit, probably has better motor control, and has arguably the best sounds available (which can be changed when you like). But it is a bigger project.

Titan example:

I've never seen a QSI Magnum Titan DCC decoder drive a smoke unit yet.

Plus I know of folks that have sent there Titans back to QSI for warranty repair and have been left hanging...QSI has a new owner and he seems to not answer emails. One fellow I know of has filed a complaint with the BBB against QSI...QSI didn't reply to them either.
