Did a battery change out on one of my PS2 locomotives(part of a 4 engine MU) while sill on the track(unpowered) and i would have thought i would have disturbed the settings in at least that engine but the settings stayed and the MU runs fine.My question... isn't the battery required to maintain these settings?

I know that when you address an engine or change any sound setting when you power down the engine it  saves it's settings .since you did not power up and down but changed the battery before powering up the previous setting must have been saved the last time you had ran it when the battery was good!

Good luck Alan

willygee, the battery isn't required to be present to maintain the settings.  It is only required at shutdown to save---write to memory---the settings.  Then unit cuts off completely until power is reapplied to the track.  FYI, "BCR" is the trade name for a supercapacitor-based product manufactured by, I believe, a firm named J&W.  Digikey does not sell BCRs; it does sell supercapacitors.

2railguy.  This battery is used to power the onboard computer, not to run the locomotive.
