Apologize if this has been covered already.

Recently acquired what appears to be an original TIU.  No “rev” on the bottom and has “ProtoSound 2” logo instead of “DCS”.  I confirmed it will power up.  I understand the older versions had signal strength issues but my layout is not large.

I purchased the DCS Companion 3rd Edition but haven’t finished yet.

Can my old TIU be upgraded to current DCS software?  A dealer told me only “rev l” and higher can be, but I saw here that any TIU can be upgraded.

Can I use WiFi as primary control (with serial cable) and not purchase a remote?

Can I run a TMCC Command Bass AND WIU at the same time using a “Y” serial cable?

As John stated, your dealer is completely mistaken. Any TIU (and DCS Remote) ever made can always use the latest software.

Yes, if you also purchase an MTH WIU, item #50-1034 and the MTH DCS App.

Yes, you can, either a Legacy command base or a TMCC command base. The cable you'll need is a DB9 splitter cable with 1 make end and 2 female ends, such as this one from Amazon.

John,

the exact wiring for the WiFi unit

That's in The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition in Part VI - DCS WiFi Interface Unit, 2. Setup and Configuration for Using the DCS Application (pages 45-48).

The Index has a lot of references to the WIU.

adding the TMCC/Legacy

The TOC for The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition shows Appendix F: TMCC and Legacy (pages 220-231), which has everything that's necessary (and a bit more) regarding interfacing DCS WiFi with Legacy (or TMCC).

There's also an Index entry for "TMCC and Legacy" with 4 sub-entries under it.
