This should be easy, but I can't find it in the manual and thought I'd ask before I put it where it doesn't belong.

On the 7-pin connector, there's a black wire coming form the middle pin and has a lug on the end.  I'm sure it's a chassis ground, but I don't see it mentioned anywhere in the manual other than the diagram on page 16, I don't see it in any photos or mentioned in the text.

Other than the wiring looking like a bowl of spaghetti, the install is going good so far.

Oh...The old RailKing 2-8-0 didn't have a tender backup light or marker lights.  I think I have a spare light housing for the backup light, but not sure where or IF I should install the marker lights on the tender.  Is this something not prototypical, I don't recall seeing marker lights on a tender?

Thanks John!

I found my copy of Marty Fitzhenry's PS2 wiring diagram and it does show the middle pin going to ground, but it also shows other wires (another ground and 2 pickup wires) that aren't there and that's what had me confused.

As far as the backup light and marker lights, they're on my 0-6-0 switcher and look good so I may include them on this one.

Thanks RJR, you must have posted as I was typing.  I'll take a look at my books and another look at the RK Imperial 0-6-0, then decide if I want to tackle adding them in.

Bob;

I can help with some information for the tender marker lights you are looking for.

For donors that do not have the marker lights, you will need to order the marker light harness and the plug that fits the 8 pin socket on the PS-2 board.

They come altogether for $7 and the PN is CC-0000062.

MTH should have them in stock.

With this kit adding marker lights is dead simple plug n' play.

If you want to add the backup light it is PN CF-0000030 and costs $4. It splices into the existing 12 pin wiring harness. Refer to the tender wiring diagram to see where it connects.

The 8 pin socket is used extensively in a diesel installation, but the only thing it is used for in a steam installation is the marker lights.

Guys,

The upgrade kit came with everything.  The marker lights are on a 2-wire harness with lights/LEDs at the end and a plug at the other end.  Simply plug it in and away you go!  So is the rear backup light, on a separate "harness".  I can leave them off simply by not plugging them in.

All I need is to get a Pyle light housing to put the backup light in, the marker lights can be insert if I drill 2 holes in the tender, simple procedure.

Looking at all my Seaboard books I can't determine if all their H2 class 2-8-0 engines had a backup light or not.  I have a query posted on the ACL/SAL/SCL Yahoo site but no responses yet.

RJR;

The MTH kit is only the bulb and harness, and as John said the marker light kit is only the LED's and harness.

Selley makes castings that could be used as a BU light housing.

MTH has a housing that is used on the RK scale 0-8-0 switcher engines.

Selley also has several different marker light castings.

MTH uses nice marker light castings on the RK Triplex. It is likely used on several other engines as well. I have used these to add tender marker lights.

I went to the PS2 website:

http://www.protosound2.com/upg/soundsets.htm

to find an upgrade, but got an error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

/upglist.asp, line 34

I went to the Protosound2 main website:

http://www.protosound2.com/

and entered 2-8-0 in the "SEARCH" block in the center of the screen.

On page 8 of the listings I found 20-3143-1, showing an "Upgrade Sound File" for the 3-volt upgrade kit.

This should work.  I saved the file, but I need to go back and read the instructions to set everything up for downloading the file into the engine.  My PCs ".NET" file should be alright being I had already download a file this time last year for my GP9.

More later.

DONE!!!

Took me longer to get it all setup at the computer than it did to load the file.

The "NEW" 2-8-0 Connie sounds great, way better than that box-o-rocks they called locosounds, even got the engine renamed to SAL 2-8-0 #935.

I still need to adjust the individual sound volumes to the levels I have my others on.

I guess the next thing is to charge the battery, although it seems to be working fine.
