I want to buy a set of Lionel F7's and have the numbers switched and the Logo on the side redone. I am interested in buying a SP f7 set and changing it to Cotton Belt. My question is, can the lettering be removed with out repainting and not seeing a bunch of rub marks once they were removed? I would like for it to look factory fresh. I can paint the handrails myself to yellow, but the decal work I think I will need a professional.

I would recommend that you contact Harry Heike and get an answer form an expert in this area. His number is (856)625-5506. I am sure Harry will tell you what is the best approach is to your proposed project.
They make a airbrush type "blaster" , I use baking soda and it takes off lettering on MTH cars , with out taking the paint off . Harbor Freight sells them , it does leave a flat finish . so it would need re-gloss after decals.
