I recently bought the Lionel Smoke Fluid Loader (6-87821). My question is can I safely wire the unit to my MTH ScaleTrax using a ScaleTrax Lockon (45-1033) which is the track that my Legacy System is wired.  I have no space on this track to position the Smoke unit. So I want to place it along the side of another track system (DCS), but wire it to my Legacy system track. The instructions recommend a continuous 18 volts for operation.  Since I use a MTH 4000 transformer I only have a 10 volt or 14 volt power connector. Connecting it directly to the track will give me the 18 volt continuous power source.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Jim,

Just 2 cadets:

  • If you somehow get a short circuit on the wires going to the smoke fluid loader, you will also blow the fuse or trip the breaker for your Legacy track, shutting it down as well.
  • If there's a DCS signal on the Legacy track, when you operate the smoke fluid loader you might experience a degradation of the DCS signal.

It's always best to keep accessories and switch track motors on circuits other than track power.
