Question on MPC 8042 Plastic Gear Replacement | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I've got an 8042 Lionel MPC engine with plastic drive gears. Looks like the main gear on the outsde of the motor has stripped, hence the gears on the drive wheels are no longer meshing.

Wondering can the drive gear be replaced? Are there spare part(s)? and if so how much effort does it take. Or is it just to find a junker and pull the motor out of it and make a complete replacement.

Any ideas appreciated! Tks!
