I run exclusively lionel engines but and intrigued by a couple MTH offerings. If I have the new legacy operating system can an MTH engine with proto 2 or 3 be run? Thanks

Yes. You can run them in conventional mode or invest in the MTH DCS gear. Legacy can control a TPC for conventional mode power.
If you desire to operate only a few MTH DCS (PS2 or PS3) engines in DCS mode and only one at a time, you can do this relatively inexpensively ($59.95) by adding an MTH #50-1033 DCS Remote Commander.
This will allow you to sample DCS by remotely operating a single PS2 or PS3 engine using a subset of DCS commands. If you find that you'd like to purchase additional DCS engines and run them using the full DCS system, you can add a full #50-1001 DCS Remote Control Set at a later date.
Everything that you need to know about DCS is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!" This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store! |
Thanks for sharing that info Barry. I have a few MTH engines myself that I'd like to run with DCS, but can't force myself to spend the money on the whole system just yet. Might just have to invest in that Remote Commander though.
The remote commander does work but your engines MUST BE in the original factory settings. If your engine is new you are good to go. If used some other owner might have changed the settings so it would require a reset. Not knowing anything about DCS, I learned these things the hard way.
