I had scheduled with MTH to do the Rutland RS-1 in the next batch of RS-1's.

Now they tell me they have the RS-3 scheduled at this time (the version with smoke) .  I'd like to to do the Rutland RS-3, cause no one has done it before, and a number of u already have the rutland RS-1 that has been done before.     Its the RS-3 OK, or would you prefer that I wait for the RS-1?

Pls LMK.

thanks,

beth

Great question. Just my 2 cents. I’d buy either in multiple road numbers but I think the RS-1 is a little more popular for the Rutland. Many of them were kept and repainted to VTR later in life. The RS-3s didn’t hang around as long from my understanding. I think the Mth RS-1 is a little more detailed than the Mth RS-3. Weaver did the RS-3 in Rutland and Atlas did the RS-1 multiple times. Both have their fair share of issues and are hard to find. Tagging a few Rutland guys.  @Former Member & @superwarp1 your thoughts?

I’d certainly be in for both. I think the RS1 because it was produced a little bit later was just about Premier quality and is the nicer of the 2 models. Still the MTH RS3 is as nice as anything else on the market comparing it to the Atlas Trainman or Lionel version. I was almost at the point of trying to paint and decal my first diesel. I’ll gladly wait it out. You make both and the entire Rutland fleet will be covered.

Beth, are the Rutland double sheathed boxcars close to being on shore ?

I’d only do a diesel if it came with fixed pilots and the option to convert to Kadee.  Atlas would make the most sense on that front, so I won’t be reserving a MTH version.  But as for RS1 or RS3 in Rutland, hands down RS1, more the better.

Fixed pilots are pretty easy to do on these. Mine are 1/8 aluminum. I planned to do one engine and ended up doing 3. I am going to see if I can get them 3D printed. The aluminum is all cut, filed, drilled tapped and sanded. I even bought a basket case just to use the frame for mocking it up. The only problem with the Rutland is the striping. Not sure as to how that’s going to line up.

since Northeast ppl are being asked, I would be interested in anything MTH for NECR in a G/W paint scheme and/or VTR in red or green.

I like Rutland and CV too but lately have been loading up on locos my young (11 YO) grandsons can see currently and will always remember when they're ancient like me! Most recent purchases have been Guilford and PAR. They still roam around their neighborhood.

Rutland RS-1 will be in 2 road numbers.  Im going to do road numbers that havent been done before.   I expect they will be about a year and a half before delivery.

The RS-3's come 1st,  and then the RS-1's.   MTH hasnt even announced the RS-3's yet, and they will wair a while before announcing  RS-1's.   They have not decided on which RS-1 they will do yet, altho I will have suggestions for them.

The more pre-orders I get, the more I can urge MTH to move up the RS-1's on the schedule.
