RADIO TOWER

I constructed a couple of them for customers. I do not think there is anything  produced in kit form. As far as a plan would go, look at an existing tower and estimate the dimensions. You will probably have to scale down the height to look right on a layout. I would use styrene or abs angle to construct a

the tower.

Here is the overall dimensions.

 

The cross bracing is about 1/2" square

Here is another type to ponder. Made it from a real wireless LAN
antenna(AirLink) and an old frame from a Lionel oil well. The base and
top was cut from a piece of  "hardboard". The transmitter shack is
a LongBell "skid" shack from American Model Builders. Inside is a flasher
circuit that operates three red 12v lamps at the top of the support
structure. (Photo 19) The chain-link was made from dowel and window screen.
I got the idea from a tower I once saw in Phoenix AZ.

Somebody makes a kit that I got and assembled. I will look it up when I get back to the layout. 

I do not have a big radio broadcasting tower.  I do have an older era Blair Company radio tower.  I put it on top of my police station as the police radio broadcasting antenna.  Matt

Is that a home made fence or the plastruc kit?

If homemade,what did you do?

The fence is home made.  I used screen from the hardware store cut on a angle so the cross pieces were at a 45 degree.  The posts are painted lollipop sticks from michels crafts.

I found if you put down painters tape on the screen before you cut it the edges come out better and don't get bent during cutting.

Nice looking tower. This post caused me to wonder how many put old TV aerials on their houses? In my old neighborhood in the '50's and '60's, each house had one strapped to the chimney or on a pole next to the house or in the yard on an old electric pole. Cable came much later.

 

Many of you do that to your houses, or remember seeing them on other layouts on here?
