Rail King SW-1 headlamp

I think the intent of midge sending you a wired bulb is that you leave the connector in there, and solder the bulb in after the connection (just replacing the burned out bulb). At least thats what I would do.

Anyone who has leftover bulbs from a PS2 upgrade kit would have a bulb pre-wired on a molex connector, like you show in your picture. If your LHS has a tech who does upgrades, ask and see whats on the leftover pile.

I'll follow your idea. Midge only had the bulb with the wires, so I'll bring out my strongest glasses, and steady my hands, take a deep breath and go for it!

Bill,  I have the bulb if you need it.

When soldering on a short one like this, clip the bad bulb off about 3/4" from the blue connector.  That way the shrink wrap covering is not at the bend.

Match the remaining length to the new bulb and cut off excess wire.  G

It probably would be a good idea to have a back-up bulb, in case I do a "mess-up"! (which I'm prone to do!)

Id cut off that bulb and install a LED in place. if you don't like wiring in components, the Evans pre-wired units or others are small enough to fit in those places.

I use an LED and a 220 ohm 1/4W resistor, all you need to install an LED in place of the 6V MTH bulb.  Since you're going to have to solder in any case, might as well save money...

The LED will give you a focused headlight that will look much more like a real headlight, I use the 3MM round top ones most of the time for MTH stuff.  Obviously, you can pick warm white or cool white, and even yellow if that floats your boat.

FWIW, the Evans LED's are designed to run on a wide variety of voltages, so my simple LED and resistor will give you a far brighter and more realistic headlight.
