Here's the product info: Railking 30-1287-1

Just picked up this unit. Knowing it is a notorious 5v PS/2 loco I didn't pay much for it knowing an upgrade to the electronics will be needed at some point.

Before I even put it on the track, I put in a fresh 9v battery. Put it on the track, heard the little relay 'click' and added to DCS. So far so good. Hit startup, lights, sounds, smoke all look good. Started moving forward...sound and lights went out and it started to take off at high speed. Cut power. Put power back on, no relay 'click' even after cutting all layout power for a couple mins. Decided to check everything and realized I put a new battery in the tender... and forgot to plug it in!!! Plugged it in, still no joy. Not recognized on the remote anymore, no relay click at power on. Tried on a conventional powered loop, nothing. Tried doing 1 whistle 3 bell reset (with my old Lionel Railsounds buttons as that is all I have available outside of my dcs system). Nothing.

So...Is the board dead? I don't see any blown caps or anything. Is the board just locked or something because it had no battery backup to keep it going if it hit dirty track? Anything else I can try myself to recover the engine before I take it to my local friendly MTH repair person?

Thanks in advance!!

Andrew
