I went to Thanksgiving Day mass at my local parish, and wore a black dress shirt embroidered with the BNSF logo.  After mass, a guy in the pew ahead turned to me and asked if I was a railroader.  I answered in the affirmative, and we introduced ourselves.  He was a retired railroader too, originally a Rock Island Amarillo man, and then he worked for SSW out of Dalhart (and later UPRR after the SP/UP merger).  He started with the Rock Island as a Brakeman the same year I started with Santa Fe as a Fireman, and we both retired on the same day, December 31, 2007.

So, all you other railroaders, has a stranger picked you out in a crowd, as a railroader?

There is a large construction company based out of California working in a remote section of the ranch building a solar installation...many of them are from the Tehachapi area, and they have commented on the old ATSF hat I sometimes wear.  A few of them were once M-O-W  equipment operators for Uncle John.
