It began when Bob Smith of Mohawk Valley RR train shop tried his hand at shortening an old diesel shell, ala the Beeps and Beefs of RMT. He shot this photo after the first few hacks. I guess his could be called a Sdeep (pronounced sdeep ). It will be fitted to an old Atlas 2-rail switcher chassis.
I took the opposite approach with this shell made up from a trio of old Lionel 520s. The result was this 520 on steroids (with apologies to Allan Miller and other "Friends of the 520"). Actually, the splicing was done years ago by an unknown modeler. I found his efforts in a junk box at York. I added a few details and other finishing touches. By coincidence, it happened to be exactly the right length to fit on an SD70 Mac chassis that we had on hand.
