I want to be able to switch between two "mainline" loops with 21" passenger cars.
Anyone using RCS double crossovers? Price varies from a mere $380 (
) for the 175 to a whopping $720 for the 280ms!

The RCS double crossover #175 uses their regular (#5) switch, so your 21" cars should negotiate it without problem. The cars will of course look better crossing the #280 which is made up of #8 switches, but not too many layouts have room for it (the 175 is 32", the 280 is 50").
Either way, you can't go wrong with Ross.

We'll if you consider you're getting 4 switches for the money, $95 each (380/4) isn't too bad...
I have one but the track work hasn't reached it, yet. Probably later next week. There is no reason why you should have any issues with 21" cars.
Mine has always worked flawlessly; Worth every penny.
