While visiting our eldest son and family, I was drawn to this old foundation on his property (first photo.) I find myself now looking at things in nature with an eye to making something similar on the layout. I wondered about using real rocks. Have any of you done so in your scenery?  I picked up a few stones that looked interesting, and did a "quick and dirty" photo shoot yesterday using a few. (second photo) I can see some potential, when I add lichen and other greenery.

My layout will be more "toy train" focused rather than precise, totally accurate scenery.

I have used the rock molds on many parts of my layout, but knew I couldn't get the effect I wanted on the water fall with them. I found these real rocks in a lot of sizes while hiking. I used Liquid nails for projects to glue them in place. I have tried to build as much of the scenery on my work bench as I could. It is much easier to "Landscape' the sides of the hills.
