Real woodpile in tender

I bought some scale wood & added it to the tender. The wood was glued on the metal top of the tender after the rubber woodpile was removed. By leaving a rear portion of the metal top exposed & weathering it, it looks exactly like the top of the water reservoir. I may fabricate a round hatch to further detail the water tank top.

Maybe I'm confused. Is the General supposed to be dead and abandoned or just neglected?

The wood looks like it's ready to be fired up to make a run.

While I think you did an awesome job on the wood load, I too feel the tender should be empty given the condition of the locomotive.

Thanks for your comments, this General is suppose to be neglected. This loco was literally a junker & this was really the only way to give it a new lease on life so to speak. I also wanted to see how the real wood would look & I am now thinking of adding it to my much cleaner & newer looking 4-4-4-0's.

better than an empty tender...

i build these on a paper substrate to make them swappable between similar Flyer and Hafner tenders.

The real wood load looks terrific. I've always thought that removing the crummy rubber part and adding a real wood load is the first thing I'd do to a General.
