I purchased a used 71–5383–250 rail sounds New York central diner. It would not work coming out of the box. I replaced all the boards and found the railsound board to be defective. In program mode, when I try to assign the number it makes a bunch of “tickets, tickets please” that does not stop until I turn power off.  It does not make a single “pot dropping” sound like it is supposed to.  Did the chipset get messed up.  When I change to chip that came from Lionel I get “steam engine” sounds when assigning.  They also don’t stop until I turn power off.

Per instruction, set to pass, leg and Lrs on Cab 2 remote.

When I add it to a train I get nothing at all.  Lights don’t react to the remote either.  I would like to have the original “20th Century Limited” announcements back.  Please give advice or insight.  Thanks

Try reseating the chips in the RailSounds audio board, you'll need a PLCC chip tool.  That frequently cures older RailSounds oddball scrambled sound issues.  The contacts oxidize and cause poor connections after a few years.

Tried that.  I broke a pin on a smaller chip.  Stepped back.  I will try to order both chips (smaller and large) specific to the NYC diner from Lionel.  Can I send it to Henning’s for repair?

Don't know if you can order the chips, but you can order the whole board if they still have them.  What's the product number of the diner.  FYI, the 71–5383–250 number is a generic manual number not the actual product number.

6-15383 Is the number.  The board they sent me came with incorrect chips.  Sounds like a steam loco.  Tried original chips.  Don’t work.  I will send an email
