Many Lionel smoke units use a funnel with a gasket between the funnel and the shell. I've popped off numerous shells and that gasket is either saturated, wrinkled up or gone.
Lionel typically doesn't stock many of these so we have to come up with another solution. What are you guys using in applications like this??

All of the post war parts suppliers that I have seen have them.
I use adhesive backed rubber stock, typically 1/16" thick and cut a custom gasket. I've found that after they're in for a spell, typically at least years, they get soft and gooey. I get my rubber stock at Michaels Hobby Shop.
Does anyone have experience using high temperature flexible gaskets from an automotive parts store?
