Hello,

After a few years of not running trains at all, I’ve gotten out my collection and am starting them up. One MTH PS2 locomotives giving me sound trouble, and in checking the speaker, it has suffered the deteriorated speaker magnet. It was still making sounds and running fine, so no metal shavings seem to have gotten in the works. Hurray!

The loco in question is the Burlington SD-24, 20-2297-1.

Per a few other posts I’ve seen, I’m looking for the replacement speaker MTH BF-0000033, but am running into a bit of a wall. I’ve also tried third parties, like Parts Express, for 50mm, 5W, 16 ohm speakers but not having any luck there either.

Does anyone know of a source for these speakers? image

Related question - while I’m in there, should I be putting in a BCR? It has the green, 9V style battery.

Thanks!

Fred

Chuck, I did read, but in searching elsewhere here, it seems like there are a variety of speakers used in MTH locomotives, and I thought it safest to stick as close to the specs as possible. 0.2W compared to 5W is a pretty big jump where device specs are concerned. Appreciate the input, though.

I had the same issue. But the ones on eBay are not 5W 16ohm

Product Specifications for 16 ohm Speaker:

Diameter 2" (50mm)

Minimum Power Handling 0.2 Watts

Max Power Handling 5 Watts

Impedance 16 ohms

Frequency Response 240Hz to 360 Hz Sensitivity 96 dB

Cone Material: Paper / Surround Material: Paper

Mounting Information Overall Outside Diameter 2" / Baffle Cutout Diameter 1.75"Depth 0.65"

Ah, that makes sense, though minimum wattage seems an odd way to stamp a speaker. I didn’t read the full description because of that.

Thank you everyone for the input. I will order that now. As luck would have it, my Mouser order didn’t go through so not extra money spent.

Apologies to you, Chuck for doubting!

😄
