Hi all, I am in the process of repairing a v150 transformer--something I read while researching stated that if you remove the resistor from circuit breaker to red lamp, you can just add a jumper from circuit breaker to socket and replace 6volt bulb with a 18volt bulb since this will only light when a short occurs--any help will be much appreciated Greg

On a Lionel Type V 150 Watt transformer, there is roughly 24-25 volts across the Short Circuit Indicator Bulb when the breaker opens. If bypassing the 60Ω resistor wire, a 24 volt bulb may be a good choice for the V's short circuit indicator.
Here's a Link to the Service Manual it shows this schematic:
Here's a link to a great article written about variations of the V transformer written by John B. Gilmer.
An Early Lionel Type V Transformer The article includes a simplified schematic of the power circuit (not posted here due to Copyright concerns).

Thanks, SteveH the diagram doesn't state the size of resistor, and I really don't know where I can purchase just a couple of resistors for my needs--a 24volt bulb I can get a little easier--do you think a #16 or #14 stranded should work Greg
The 60 Ohm resistor in series with the short circuit bulb is mentioned in the manual. I would guess that a 5 Watt 60 Ohm wire wound ceramic coated replacement would be sufficient if you want to go that route.
If you'd instead prefer to replace the resistor wire with insulated copper wire and a 24V bulb, then 18 gauge or larger would be fine.
