ERTL/TOMY 45017 John Deere 400D 1:50 scale dump truck

This is a modern diecast metal dump truck that makes a nice flatcar 'load" or trackside construction vehicle. The dumper bed is movable as shown. This diecast model was made by the Tomy, Oak Brook, Illinois. The model shown is the "basic" version.  Another similar Ertl model has many upgraded details.

Note: The prototype truck has a "tail gate" which is not detailed on the model.

Sure wish they'd make some more vintage construction equipment.  That JD piece is sure pretty but it won't look very correct on my 1950's layout.  I recall, as a kid, seeing some really huge ditchers that were gasolene powered with an engine that had exposed rocker arms, and a corrugated roof over the whole thing.  Now, THAT would find a home on my layout!
