Plaster of Paris works really well. Usually ready to pop out of the mold in a few hours. However make sure to give it ample time to fully dry out and cure which will take longer if left in a damp basement. Hot summer days work well. Ive probably made over 1,000 rocks this way
Hi,L.I.Train, I did go with the plaster of paris and you are right works great. I used Sterling Rock Molds, nice product. I did about fifty cast in ten hours,I have five molds. I was able to remove the mold about every 45min. Thank,s Bubby. Steve P.
Any type of plaster will work. Paint/drywall stores usually have 50lb bags of several different types. Depending on your local Lowes or Home Depot, they usually have some type that will work too, although ours did not.
