Looking for any help or ideas,

I am looking to start making the Rockville Bridge in O Scale.  I know that Lionel has one but I would like to make it with 2 tracks side by side like the real bridge in PA.  What material would you recommend to make it firm and sturdy.  And does anyone make bridge piers wide enough to support the width of a 2 track bridge?  Any help would be great.

Mike,

Sounds like a great project and one that can keep you busy for some time! I'm sure you probably are familiar with George P's (G3750) great PRR Panhandle Division thread. While his bridge piers are modeled after concrete, you might pick up some ideas (around page 6 of his thread). If it was me, I would try building a frame out of plywood and then use foam insulation as a veneer of sorts and then cut the individual stones...which could, again, take some time depending on the overall length you are planning. Keep posting along the way!

Mike,

If you are going to York this April, part of our display is that of a 20' double-tracked O Scale Rockville Bridge. It was designed and built for us by foam-artist Tim W. of I love bridges. He specializes in fantastic and awesome carvings to resemble stone-work on custom made bridges. I didn't find your email listed in your OGR profile, but if you are interested contact us and I will provide further information.

Forum member Neil Schorr,  (PRRMiddleDivision), had done a very nice stone arch bridge on his PRR layout.   Quick research indicates this not to be the Rockville Bridge.  Further forum research indicates model of the  stone arch bridge at Tuscarora Creek, just east of Port Royal.  From a previous PRRMiddleDivision Post.

Thank you for the info.  I wish I was going to be in York next month.  I moved from Enola to Colorado 19 years ago and just got back into the hobby when my 2 boys started loving trains.  I grew up going to the TCA shows in York.  My email address is mr.hutchison1008@Hotmail.com if you could please provide further info.  I'm thinking of even adding the mini Statue of Liberty on the pier just down from the Rockville Bridge on my layout.
