Hello. I've been using the same spool of rosin core solder for years, and it's finally getting close to the end of the roll. The only information left on the roll is 40 tin/60 lead. It dose not say the size in mm. What size in .mm do you recommend for basic soldering for post war repairs?

I am using .61mm (1/32") 60/40 rosin core solder for my repair work.

1/32 is the same as .031. I think that is what I use for general soldering. I use thinner stuff on circuit boards.
In my experience, it seems that using cored solder that is too thin is counter productive. Maybe because there isn't enough flux being delivered?
I just buy the Minatronics solder and I always use flux in addition to the rosin core solder.
I use the 63/37 Rosin Core solder in .020 and .031 sizes, depending on the job. This specific mix is an eutectic composition that goes immediately from a liquid to a solid state, it will help you avoid cold solder joints.
John,
What is your source for the 63/37 solder. It sounds like this ratio gives you an edge on quick jobs and helps avoid movement while waiting for the joint to cool.

Almost anywhere Earl. Last time I bought, I think I got it at Amazon.
