I'm going to order 2 Ross Deck Girder Bridges tomorrow.

How many inches of straight track should I have leading into the bridge entrance if exiting/entering an O64 or O72 curve? The longest locomotive I'll be running is an MTH RailKing SD60, which I believe is 18 and a half inches long. Due to the small size of the layout I've decided not to buy anything over 16 inches in future.

If I leave two inches of straight track between the start of the bridge end the exit/start of a corner will I run into clearance problems? For example, a 12 inch bridge using a 14 inch peice of sectional track between two O64 curves.

I've attached a picture of the table with the track loosely laid out to help give you an idea.

Thanks and Merry Christams / Happy Holidays

What are you planing to run?

Scale-sized articulated steam locomotives are the problem as the boiler front hangs outside the curve. On an O-72 curve, that can be around 2 3/4 inches outside the track centerline. If the bridge structure is beyond that it will probably clear; if not, the boiler could clip the bridge structure. You're usually better off approaching a bridge from a straight or a very broad curve.

If you're running "normal" steam and diesel, you probably won't have problems. You definitely won't have a problem with an SD60 diesel. From your description, that's the old Premier SD60 tooling that migrated into the Rail King Scale line, so even Premier diesels should be OK.
