I will start by saying that I am not that computer savey.

Can you run both the older version 4.whatever and the new version 5 of the RR Track software on the same computer or will it wig out the computer? Can they be running at the same time?

I just bought version 5 and installed on a new computer but am concerned about installing the older version along with it. But, I want to because version 5 won't read anything earlier.

Has anybody done this?

not true ( to what TinDude said) RR-Track is downward compatible... meaning Ver 5 will read all Ver 4 or earlier files.

But when you save that ver 4 file in ver 5 you can not then read that same saved file in Ver 4 anymore because it is now a Ver 5 file.

You can have both versions reside in the same computer but again ver 5 files can't be read by ver 4.

I'd try to uninstall both versions and then just install the latest.  Is there a reason you want to run both versions?  It is uncommon to need to do so.  As was mentioned, Version 5 is supposed to convert version 4 files to version 5.  Version 5 files can no longer be read in version 4.

If you need to contact the company for support, it may take Ralph a few days to get back to you.  It is a one man operation and sometimes Ralph is a bit slow to respond.

I installed and use both 4 and 5 on my laptop.  Heck, there are times I'm running both at the same time.  Version 5, like Version 4, are stand-alone programs.

Why do I run or use both versions?  Version 5 does not have the Scenic Express Roads library, and I don't have the Misc. O Scale library in Version 4. This may sound weird, but I use the Scenic Express Roads library a lot.  Also, there are times I help folks who have just Version 4.

I have had no issues with opening Version 4 files in 5.  However, I do rename these files with a v5 suffix, so I can maintain my Ver. 4 file as is.
