Folks:

I've been a user of RR Track 4 and RR Track 5 over many years.  The product has been a great help in designing my track plans.  I am in the process of finally building my dream layout.

Unfortunately, I had a computer crash recently as a result of a bad MB.  I managed to save the hard drive with all the files.  I moved the drive to a new computer and I have access to all my files including RR Track programs.  Now I can't run either RRT4 or RRT5.  I cant find my original installation disks nor can I find the downloads that accompanied it.

I sent an email to customer support at support@rrtrack.com on 9/11/19 and have not received a response to date.  I could not find a phone number.  Are they still in business?  Anyone have any suggestions.  While I know its not R & S's fault that my computer crashed, I don't think that I should pay another $130 + for new software.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

I am not a computer expert by any means - it may be because the new computer has a different "ID code" that on startup the software queries and does not recognize. Does the software ask you for a product code that came with the disc? Or does the software simply fail to start up?

If the first ask RR Track for your product code or a new one (not sure if the codes are specific to the disc they come with).

If the second your hard drive may have been more cooked than you realized. I would be interested in knowing if RR Track would send new software.

Thanks for your comments.  The program starts, but says something like, and I am paraphrasing, "This copy is illegal. You need to enter the program key".  I searched and could not find the original disk.  I installed the program maybe 5 years ago.  I purchased over $200 in software between rrtrack 4 and rrtrack 5 and library add-ons.  I think it would be fair for me to pay for cost of disc(s) and shipping.

Anyone know a phone # for RR Track?

Again, thanks for your input.

I contacted them a couple years ago, different problem, it was with a new library I had purchased. They were not prompt, but did eventually reply back to me and they did fix my problem. I never got a phone number for them.

And FWIW, I just got a couple of current, new train magazines and they had adds in them for RR-Track, so it appears they are still in business. Maybe try emailing them a second time?

Folks:

I got resolution regarding my problem.  After my second email, Russ of R & S contacted me and offered a solution.  Evidently, there is an upgrade disc available for $55 plus shipping.  Order information for this disc is on the website, but you have to really search for it.  I copied all of the RR Track 5 files along with the corresponding library files that I saved from my old HD to the destination folder in windows.  I installed the program to that folder.   Now, everything works and I haven't lost any of the ad-on libraries.  I am contemplating a very safe spot for my new upgrade disc-perhaps my safety deposit box.

A word of advice, protect your RR Track  install disc and don't expect any mercy from R & S.
