With Lionel's announcement of a Legacy N&W J Class I would imagine there will be some good deals coming up on their several previous scale 'J's'.

There were two of them recently on the FS board, one with RS4 and the other with RS5. In looking at the videos of both, neither appeared to have 4 chuffs per revolution if I was listening closely. Guess I had assumed that RS5 would have the correct chuff rate?

What are the other differences between RS4 & RS5 with a steamer please?

I also did it to a RS5 Berkshire - it was pretty easy.  Just quarter the magnets, glue the reed switch where it will be tripped by the magnets, and then take the wires from the original sensor and connect them to the reed switch.  This will activate 4 chuffs plus activate the puff action from the smoke unit:
