Well,

I broke down and ordered me a Lionel UP H7. I have not yet make the transition to Legacy, so I will be running this engine in TMCC mode. Along with Legacy features I will be unable to access, is there anything I need to be aware of when running this engine on TMCC? I have a Legacy NYC GP 7 that seems to work just fine on TMCC.

Thanks for your help,

Richard

Should run great, you'll get a variable whistle as opposed to a quillable one and load and drift cuffs will changed automatically based on increases and decreases in the throttle knob.  I  almost prefer the automatic load and drift of TMCC operation to the manually selected load and drift of legacy.

Other things like coal and water refueling are still accessable via cab1.

Lionel does a great job of making old TMCC control users "feel" like they aren't missing out on alot.

I was never disappointed in any of my legacy locos under cab1

The issue isn't how much you lose when running a Legacy engine under original TMCC as it is how much better your non Legacy engines run when using a CAB-2 and Legacy base or the just released CAB-1L and it's matching base.

The CAB-1 predates release of the TMCC command boards and has some serious deficiencies in terms of how it runs command control locomotives.  Note that I said the CAB-1 has the issues.  It's not the command base or the controllers in the engines.  I've had the CAB-2/base set for about 2-2 1/2 years and only recently bought my first Legacy engine.  The original CAB-1 and base have been boxed away since I got the CAB-2.  The difference in the way the older trains worked using the new remote was like night and day.

While the Legacy engine has fantastic sounds and incredible control it isn't the only reason to switch to the newer controllers.

Thanks Chuck,

I never said "never", but I had accumulated 6 PS2 engines before I intalled DCS in the layout. I will pass on your comments on to the rest of the guys in the Casey Jones High Railers group. I think I may be the only one of us with Legacy engines. We have considered trasitioning the modular layout to Legacy. I think the group would appreciate hearing about your experience with Legacy, and tahe advantages it has when running TMCC engies.

Thanks for your advice.

Richard
