Please help. I have my DCS system running my PS1 engine but it jump starts because the voltage starts at 5 volts. Is there any way to lower the voltage below 5 volts so I can have smooth stops and starts at the station? Thanks for any responses.

I'm pretty sure that's been addressed in one of the software upgrades.. I just don't know which one... If you're using a brick for power there's not much you can do. if not try lowering the power supply with the handle of your transformer.
Yes, I'm using a brick for power.
you can use the remote and set the voltage a starting point which works, each engine might be different start voltages read Barry's dcs book it will yell you exactly how to adjust the start voltage with the remote!

Use a variable Chanel set to variable mode. Then use the TR screen's MTV soft key to set the power to start at zero volts instead of the default of 5 volts.
I believe that the ability to set 0 volts came along in DCS 4.30.

I went to the protosound2.0 website but couldn't find a link to the DCS 4.30 update. Is it identified as something else? Thanks.
DCS 4.3 was when the feature was first included. The current release is DCS 6.1. That's the one that you want.
My unit is at release 6.0 and will not accept a voltage below 5.0

I do, I just finished testing with version 5 Starting voltage IS 5 volts.
Power supply 1033 Menu/system dcs set up/ selected the var channel and hit fix which toggles between fixed and var mode. Var channel is in var mode....
Back to TR and select var 2 and the voltage shown is 0 volts,,,, fist click up it goes to 5 volts.
Then I tried setting up a tiu track with var 2 in var mode same thing. O to first click 5 volts.
I'm not in front of my remote right now, but there is a starting voltage soft key in the track control screen. This is where you can change the default starting voltage from 5.0 to something higher or lower in half volt increments.
Gregg, et al,
The default starting voltage for a TIU Track on a variable channel is, indeed, 5 volts. However, in the newer releases of DCS that voltage may be changed to as low as 1 volt, as follows:
- Press TR and select a variable channel's TIU Track. Press the thumbwheel.
- Press soft key S2, MTV.
- Select Start Volts and press the thumbwheel.
- Use the thumbwheel to scroll down to 1.0 volts, or whatever value you desire, and press the thumbwheel.
Now, the first click up on the thumbwheel will go to the starting voltage that you selected above. Successive clicks up will increase voltage in .5 volt increments.
FWIW, I just did this using my decrepit Rev. G TIU (with a dead Fixed #2 channel) and a remote with a blown transceiver board, tethered to the Rev. G, and it worked.

That's the ticket.... Perfect, and the remote remembers the setting for next time.... Thank you.
Going to try to update software in my TIU & remote tonight but I'm a little confused. If I'm using a USB to USB cable do I still need the 1/8” Stereo Mini-to-Mini Cable?
Yes, you'll need the 1/8" stereo jumper cable to update the TIU and the 4-conductor, curly, telephone handset cable to update the remote.
Be sure to follow the on-screen instructions exactly!

I have been following incognito (sounds better than lurking) for some time. Thank you Ken for the video!! I have a B&O F3 A-B-A set of the same vintage and a couple other Protosound (PS1) engines I want to try this on. Now I may not even upgrade them to PS3 like I did one engine recently!
Yes, those units are sharp looking!!
Updated my DCS to Rev.-6.1 last night, everything went smoothly. Thanks for all your help Barry!!! Happy New Year to all!
is it possible to bring up PS1 settings such as reset 18 using the DCS remote? The handles up and down method I am great at screwing up..
Gerry, The TIU & remote is the best way to operate the features of a PS1 engine. Instead of guessing what each feature number represents, the Remote has the feature number with a brief description display on the LCD screen. Select the feature, and the TIU automatically makes the appropriate throttle responses to program that feature.
If I recall correctly, I believe that the DCS Premium app does not have this functionality. It is only available on the DCS Remote.
Gerry,
Use the MPG and PS1 soft keys on the TR screen. Refer to page 228 of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition.

Thats correct.
Thanks guys! I was finally able to reset a PS1 Premier Blue Comet which had no sound while moving. It has chugging sound now!
