I have completed a design and several prototypes of a smoke housing to fit the American Flyer Steam engines late 40s to early 60s using a DC Can Mini Motor driving a Lionel vortech fan that create smoke plumes based in a 4 rev per chuff trigger. My current issue is good smoke plume at low track voltage and not over heating the 27 Ohm heater coil at higher track volts and engine speeds. I have a voltage regulator in line now that limits output for a strong 188 degrees F at 5V and 220 degrees at 15V. But is takes space and adds money. Lower Ohms heaters have low smoke plume at lower track voltage. Is there anyone capable of sharing thoughts and ideas to get regulated smoke plumes at the lowest cost throughout the range of track voltage these vintage Flyer Steamers run at.
