SC-1 External Power Supply Question | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Greetings all.

I have read here that the Lionel SC-1 switch/accessory controllers are happier, and work more predictably with an external power supply, and not relying on a switch to power them.

My question is...does the 7-18 volt wall wart required to externally power the SC-1 take household AC and deliver DC to the SC-1, or does the required wall wart take household AC and deliver AC to the SC-1?

I’m asking because the asking price of the Lionel item is a bit dear, and would like to buy several generic versions from Amazon/EBay for the same price.

Thank you Rob, that picture is worth a thousand words.

Basically I’m looking for a cord that steps down 120 volt AC to 12 volts AC & 300 milliamps.

Hard to believe that it wouldn't run on DC as well, but I've never tried it.
