I posted this over in the 2 Rail section but I consider it 3RS detail work so I'll stick it in here too. I've never been happy with MTH's generic MU hoses...they improved on the new Dash 8's that just came out but they still could be a whole lot better. So...I made my own after trial and error with PSC parts and ended up just using the glad hands...

I made this...

...into this...

My method uses the stock MTH hose cluster, some PSC hose, and PSC glad hands. I cut off the MTH hose about halfway down, and whittle down the remaining hose with an exacto knife so it will fit inside the PSC hose. A drop of glue, slide on the hose and glad hand and your done! Much better than the original I think...

Will post more pics when I put them back on the ES44...

Your not going to find it listed online. You have to buy the PSC catalog "O Scale Diesel Locomotive Catalog # 9746." Glad hands used are PSC Part number 5676. You can get them here: www.pdhobbyshop.com PSC05676

Thank's for the info. I'm really sorry I made this inquiry. It seems I've committed an editorial faux pas and have rankled the ire of a fellow forum member by my error. I won't make this mistake again.

PSC 4689 will get you 4" of the hose for $3.75 plus shipping. Personally I will use Black wire insulation when I run out of the hose as it is VERY cheap to buy this small wire and strip off little pieces at the time the length you need. Buying PSC hose will add up quick as 4" is about enough to do one locomotive.

Don't worry about all the bluster......no one's perfect here.

I think PSC also has a $25 minimum on orders, but getting there is pretty easy to do, or in my case pretty hard not to do, Wink
I found the perfect O Scale hose today, can be used to make air hoses and mu hoses, its the same size as the PSC hose. No need to buy wire and strip it, its already hollow and its very flexible but not to flexible if you know what I mean.

Can be found at A.C. Moore in the Jewelry section. $1.99 for 10 yards!

Naturally...its Chic. Wink It looks big in the photos, as in diameter, but its not. About the same as 24 gauge wire.

I found some of the hollow fishing line at Wallyworld the other day, and its almost identical in size and flexibility to the product pictured above which is used for make neclaces I believe. Either would work.

I wish someone would post pictures of this "Magnetic Air Hose" I keep hearing about along with a how too. Sounds like a great idea. Id at least like to see a pic of the end result.

I leave them on because these aren't static display models...I actually run them. I've debated many times to cut them off but if I do it will be a PITA to uncouple them. I cut off the KD pins on two of my cars to see how it would be and I won't be doing that again any time soon. I'm still hoping for a scale proto coupler sometime in the future.
Finally finished my ES44. Since the last post I've added a few details...Hand Brake chain on the left rear truck, proper MU cable receptacles mounted on bent plate on the pilot, and the proper MU cable itself with plugs. That about wraps it up for detailing for now. Next up...weathering...gonna be a while before thats complete as I'm slowing gathering all the needed tools and materials. I'm going to buy a high quality airbrush $$$$ Eek

Stock (Minus KD):

Finished (I think):

Brake chain (kinda hard to see):

Prototype:
The lines pictured are from Precision Scale Co. They're the best I've found so far. You'd be surprised how close they really are. The MU hoses are 2" and 3" in diameter, the brake line a hair over 3", and the MU Cable is a hair larger than that. I had a pretty tough time finding these items. There just isn't much made for modern O Scale diesels. I wouldn't consider any differences in diameter by "Far" esp. when the MU Cable is nearly the same size as the Brake Line. I wish the details were made for O scale like they are for HO but that will never happen.
