specs give the depth at 26" or just over 100 scale feet which would be borderline for a lot of large steam (4 coupled locomotives; Berkshires, Mountains, Northerns, etc) and definitely under sized for most large articulated engines.

You may want to check Korber.  The 304 house has been modified and improved recently.  It is about 29" inside front to back.   IMO Rich has done a very good job of improving this kit that dates to the early 1980's  The Korber kit also has an add-on extension for the really long stuff.  Shown is the 304 kit with one additional stall 304A and 304B extension.  The 304B is currently not shown on the Korber website. One piece roof is custom fabricated. There is detail on this roof fabrication via the upgraded assembly instructions listed on the website.
