I have also used shingles for my roadways.  The back side has a texture that resembles asphalt.  I cut the tabs off and splice the pieces together.  I use spackling to fill in the cracks.  I then use an airbrush to apply a light coat of PolyScale Aged Concrete paint.  A Sharpie marker is used to simulate crack repairs.  It can also be used over the spackling to hide the seams.  Chalks and diluted paint are used to simulate tire marks and oil leaks.
