I do not see this shipper advertised on here in the heading, and the UPS thread is closed, but I received notice yesterday that an item I forgot I ordered, months...years? ago  floated into one of the advertisers on this forum.  I called and they wanted current shipping info.  I gave them the address required for UPS to ship to POB.  They had never heard of this USPS service and claimed it could not be done, and then that UPS would charge them more?  We went around and around until they decided they were going to ship USPS.  (not to keep beating a dead horse,

but it is not always the shipping service, but the shipper)

Here, direct from the source (UPS website), is the UPS policy regarding shipping to a P.O. box:

"You must make every effort to obtain a street address. If a shipper should use a P.O. Box address, the recipient´s telephone number must be included on the label. Your package that is addressed to a P.O. Box may be delayed, will not be covered by any UPS Service Guarantee, and will require an address correction charge. Army Post Office (APO) and Fleet Post Office (FPO) addresses are not accepted."

Your shipper was correct by not sending your package via UPS to a POB. I would not ship that way either.

As posted by mr Miller you were correct that it could be done but it is not optimal. If you are using a post office box then use the USPS. Simple, easy and less likely that you will have a problem.

There was a discussion on here in the past about the threat and annoyance of having

packages dumped on your front porch, and that many of us cannot afford servants to

be there 24/7 to answer the door, at the whim of the delivering service.  I belong to

that very large group of potential customers.  It is shipped at MY convenience, or it

comes from another source.

IF you are shipping to a P.O. Box you must>

1) Sign an agreement with the post office to do so.

2) Use the physical address of the post office (your P.O. Box would look like a suite number or an apartment number.)

For instance my my P.O. Box Address is:

P.O. Box 19562

Roanoke VA 24019

When shipping UPS or FedEx packages my P.O. Box address is:

6621 Williamson Rd

#19562

Roanoke, VA 24019

So the P.O. Box does have a physical address and UPS and FedEx both deliver to it.

I appologize for my earlier incorrect information, UPS calls it SurePost.  FedEx calls it SmartPost.  UPS's SurePost, according to their website, is an economy, residential, ground service. This service combines
the consistency and reliability of the UPS Ground network with final delivery
typically provided by the U.S. Postal Service.

For those of us that have a POB this can cause a problem since the PO doesn't deliver to our physical addresses but a physical address is required for a UPS shipment.

And here's the info for UPS SurePost.

I personally wouldn't feel especially good about either the FedEx or UPS arrangement.  I would rather have my packages handled exclusively by one of the three services from start to finish.

Note that both the FedEx and UPS services require that the shipper have a contract for that type of service.  My guess is that few train dealers feel the need for that.
