Just thought I'd share that I just received the order fullfillment and shipping notification from Lionel for the 3160 Santa Fe Mikado brass hybrid.  The expected delivery date is end of day Tuesday 12/19 and it is now In Transit from Concord, NC with FedEx.  I watched the recent video on Ericstrains' YouTube site and I am looking forward to seeing and running it at Christmas.  As always, nice work Eric on the video. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all.

Wow, it’s a really beautiful Locomotive. Thank you for posting with all the different pictures. One Question, (mines on the way to) are these Locomotives marked with a serial number, like 1 of 1000?  Just curious. Either way, this is truly a great adventure for us Lionel train enthusiast.  Hopefully there will be more Brass/hybrid Offerrings in the future. Merry Christmas. (Referring to Mike W’s Pictures)

All Lionel locomotives have a serial number (sticker) now.

(Edited with better pics and description)  Received mine today...unpainted.  Outstanding.  The model body and trim are pure natural brass...brass has variations in tone and texture across the surface...the body is polished only to the level needed to take on paint application for the decorated versions...in this case its lacquered....not polished like a shiny brass lamp or door handle....hence you may see some spots etc that fit the character.  The thin rolled nature of the brass gives a feel that's unique.  The frame, wheels, any load bearing under-body part are the usual diecast/zamack...offering a nice contrast.  No serial #'s on the undersides.  More pics...

Compared to some of my old HO Toby Crowns of 60 years ago...

Incredible absence of any evidence of solder on the brass work!!  Even with resistance soldering I would find it hard to achieve this level of 'solderlessness'.  I'm in awe!  B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!

(Or was it all CA'd together?)

Mine on the way....painted/lettered.

jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle,........

Dave Olson, thank you for taking a personal interest in making this project a success. Your showing interest in our Satisfaction is very evident. Taking time from your daily duties at Lionel, showing a genuine concern for our enjoyment with your involvement on this OGR Forum, is Well Appreciated.  At the April York meet, when we met at the Lionel booth, you asked me to Control this Locomotive with my IPhone, well, that was a nice gesture on your part, so, I ordered one of these engines, #3222.....Merry Christmas to You and your fellow workers at the best Toy Train Maker in the world, Lionel......

Interesting about the serial number. I started noticing a sticker with a serial# on the last batches of Legacy engines and asked @Dave Olson about it. He said it was standard now.

The serial number sticker is under the cab and the individual number is under the drop plate.

Thanks Dave. The  statement about it not being there kinda surprised me based on what you've said in the past. I for one like having a serial number on the locomotives.

Thanks. I was holding the loco carefully due to the brass and didn't flip it all over just yet.

Mine was delivered today. First impression is that it is very light. Second, open the box carefully, because it is very light, mine shifted in the Styrofoam box. No damage, but a bit of a scare.

Detailing a far better than I thought, but then again it's a brass engine.

Lionel's BTO Built to Order is sort of like Sunset's method of sales where you order 7 months before the engine arrives.

Daniel's Trains on YT was very kind to upload a video of his painted lettered version. Again, I'm not a Santa Fe fan, but I'm blown away how much Lionel went the extra mile on this locomotive - the detail, the quality, the ROAD & NUMBER SPECIFIC RailSounds chip, everything.

I think Lionel has convinced me how potential this product line has and I can't wait to see what they do next. Hopefully some NYC/CNJ/B&O/C&O/East Coast prototypes...

Hey guys thanks for the videos.  Looks like Lionel has hit a home run.  I think it was wise of them to do this in house vs the dealer network as a test run on the Brass Hybrid concept.  I know others are having a hard time with that but a proof of concept is always better handled close to the core.  It paid off for Lionel I would say.

Bet cutting out the dealer mark up made it a profitable item. Wonder how many they would have sold had it been a scale modern design ATSF Pacific or Hudson, which Lionel has never done.

According to Dave and Ryan, more models are in the plan so you never know.

Great news Marty. Not being a Mikado fan, and less of the old style engines with those big hump domes, these never entered our budget considerations for possible purchase. For those that did purchase them, they do seem to be well produced.
